National Summer Games (July 18th – 23rd) Brandon, Manitoba
 

Finally as the countdown for the Special Olympic Canada Summer Game is up it is the time for the athletes and coaches from all 10 Province and 2 Territories (12 Chapters) to head towards the host city Brandon, Manitoba. There are 1007 athletes competing in eight sports, 5 pin bowling, 10 pin bowling, soccer, soft ball, athletic, aquatics and power lifting. The team sports are made up of a total of 24 team of 10 pin bowler of four, 40 team of 5 pin bowler of five, 12 Soccer team of ten and 12 soft ball team of fifteen. For this event to be successful 254 Provincial coaches from all over Canada with 12 Chef demission staff, 11 team managers and 58 mission staff are working together tirelessly and now is the time to execute the mission.

From region 4 (Burnaby, Richmond, Delta), we are sending 6 athletes (one athletics, three aquatics and two rhythmic gymnast) with one Rhythmic gymnastic coach Caryn Liberman from Richmond. Burnaby athlete Christina Tomingas will be competing in 50M, 100M free style, 50M, 100M breast stroke and 50 M Back stroke at Kinsmen pool in Sportsplex and her head and team coach is Sallie Szanik.

Burnaby athletic athlete Christopher Mitchel will be accompanied by his head coach Steve Robertson and his team coach Gloria Schmitke and is racing 100M, 200M, 400M, Shot Put and Long Jump at UCT Athletics Stadium.

Christopher and Christina will be leaving for Brandon, Manitoba on Monday July 17th after the Team BC Draft an Athletic Breakfast and will be practicing on July 18th .
Competitions and medal award will be from July19th till 22nd and they will be arriving back at the Vancouver Airport on the 23rd of July at 10:45 am on West jet Flight 209.

All the Athletes, Volunteers, Coaches and Board Members of Special Olympic BC Burnaby wishes good luck and all the best to our two athletes as well as all the athletes participating in the National Summer Game. Most of all have fun, enjoy new friends, new experience, treasure the moment and share your experience with us when you come back from the game!
