SOBC Burnaby 2008 Christmas Party

Friday November 21st was the 2008 SOBC Burnaby Christmas party. Even though I’ve been with the Special Olympics for more than five years, this was the first non athletic event that I’ve attended. I am continually astonished by the level of sophistication, professionalism and organization of the functions put on by the SOBC Burnaby.

This party was attended by 100 plus athletes, coaches and volunteers. There were music and entertainment provided by DJ-Dan and his family (they've been doing this for us for the past 5 years), individual meetings and gift giving by Santa, as well as an elaborate dinner.

At the heart of all our non-athletic events is Zee Simpson (on the left in the picture). Without her, all our fundraisers and special events would not be this well put together. I’ve been hearing rumors lately that she is intending to step down from her post. In the past, we’ve always managed to convince her to stay for another term. I’m hoping we could do so once again during next year’s AGM.

Special mentions also have to go out to the servers, the kitchens staff, Santa and Miss Clause, Dan and family, the Bank of Montreal for donating the cake, the Cariboo Road Christian Fellowship Church for allowing us to use their space, as well as all the people who made the event possible.
